W.L.West & Sons Ltd have sponsored the Rother Raft Race since 1997. The directors felt that as the Macmillan fund benefited from the proceeds it would be a good idea to support this local event. They have also managed to field a few company teams over the years. 2007 will be the 11th year that they sponsored the event. They and we hope to see a good entry list this year.

HISTORY OF THE COMPANY

For as long as anyone can remember the West family have been involved with timber in the Midhurst area.
Originally located on part of what was a railway yard in Midhurst, the Beeching railway cuts increased the availability of land, and the business eventually occupied the entire railway yard. This was utilised for Saw milling and Timber Trading.

Towards the mid seventies it was recognised by the family that expansion was needed, which the existing site in Midhurst could not provide. The company bought a small sawmill at Selham. Negotiations took place with the owner of the land and the local authorities to build a purpose built sawmill. This was completed in 1986,and W.L.West & Sons Ltd moved, lock, stock and barrel from Midhurst to the current site in Selham.

They have never turned any customer away regardless of the size of their order, but today they now have a new department that is dedicated to the Enthusiast and the Smaller User.

Pop in and see them either during the week 8.00am till 5.00pm or Saturday morning 9.00am till 12.00 midday. They are located halfway between Midhurst and Petworth in West Sussex, just off the A272 opposite the Half Way Bridge Inn.
