Cowdray Ruins Midhurst to Lods Bridge Selham

On behalf of my fellow organisers, competitors, spectators & all benefiting charities, I would like to thank you for your  help and assistance with the 2007 Rother Raft Race.

After a slow start with the incoming entries we finally had 51 rafts enter the race, a little down on previous years. This was more than made up for by the team entered to support the St. Richards Hospital, Cancer Day Care Centre Appeal. They alone raised £ 4,784.65 for their cause, in sponsorship and collections along the river bank.

The race itself showed a clear profit of £5,520.00. A further £500.00 was raised by the 1st Birdham & Witterings Scout Troop for their funds by providing the refreshments on the day at both the start & finish of the race.

Thanks to your help & assistance a total of £10,804.65 has gone to well deserving charities. The proceeds were split as follows.

Macmillan Cancer Support  £1,600.00
The Rosemary Foundation  £1,500.00
Cancer Day Care Centre     £6,284.65
St John Ambulance                 £650.00
Selham Church                       £200.00
The Cobden Club, Heyshott      £70.00

A further £500 was raised by the scouts for their funds.

Following this, yet another record breaking year, we are already planning the 2008 Rother Raft Race. We will in due course be contacting you to seek your continued support for the Race without which, of course, this great event, could not take place, for this the  27th consecutive year.

Thanks once again

 Points for your raft

1 Most important thing LIFE JACKETS (without these you won't be allowed to race)
2 You need a base (aluminium ladder/wood)
3 You'll need barrels.(non toxic products)
4 Something to attach the barrels to the base.

5 Something to sit on. (don't forget it's 3.75 miles!)
6 Single bladed oars (NOT the ones you use for canoeing)
7 Rope, which is attached to your raft so that if you get into difficulties you can throw it to someone on the river bank and they can pull you in.
8 Somewhere on your raft to put your number clearly so it can be seen from the river bank at all times.

If you need anymore help/advise then contact us (see Contact Us). We will be more than happy to help.
